The plant that produces mixed fodder solved the problem of reducing costs. In the cost of production, a significant part is the cost of energy. For the production of mixed fodder, the technological process involves superheated water vapor supplied by our own boiler house. After examining the boiler house, ARTESIA specialists recommended several directions that would contribute to energy saving, that is, save money without compromising product quality. The introduction of automatic purging of the steam boiler drums saves the plant 5,000 euros annually.

Boiler water is almost a distillate, almost without impurities after chemical water treatment, even without dissolved corrosive gases after the deaerator. However, a certain part of the salts still remains. Water evaporates in the drum, and salts and impurities settle in the tank. When there are a lot of them, the surface of the mirror will begin to foam, the foam will enter the steam pipeline, salts will settle on the pipes and destroy them. A boiler with a saline drum, pipes and heat exchangers will soon be repaired.

To prevent this, use the purge procedure - boiler water with impurities is forcibly drained in a certain amount, replacing it with fresh water. This is done by operators on command from the boiler laboratory. They do this mainly by hand, opening the purge valves for the recommended time. This time is often determined approximately, "by eye". Purging manuals were developed at a time when no one was engaged in savings. The task of the operators is to prevent the salt concentration in the water from exceeding the permissible value. But no one controls how much more usable water is decommissioned (discharged into the sewer). Laboratory measurements are performed periodically. What happens in the intervals between measurements - one can only guess.

As a result, we drain still high-quality water, for which fuel has already been spent heating, and replace it with relatively cool water, which again needs to be heated to the evaporation temperature.

Automated purging of the boiler drums eliminates the problem of excessive consumption of water and thermal energy for its heating. It includes both continuous blowing of the upper drum and periodic blowing of the lower one.

salt concentration sensors (with temperature correction, which affects the performance)
special valves (they must be fast in order to drain exactly the right amount of water and “explode” salt deposits at the bottom of the drum)
an automation system with advanced real-time blowdown calculation algorithms (valve opening value, periodic blowdown timers, self-diagnostics, response to changes in boiler steam load, etc.).
