Quite often it becomes a question of searching quality pipeline fittings for installation on sections of periodic blowdown of the lower drums of steam boilers. The increased interest in this type of reinforcement is associated with critical operating conditions. Despite the fact that the valve is opened quite rarely and for a short time to purge from sludge and other contamination of the lower drum of steam boilers, the mode of operation of pipeline valves at this point is very extreme. If you reveal in more detail the operating conditions and requirements for this system, you can understand the reasons for such attention:

The installation location of the periodic blowdown valve (pos.52) is shown in the figure conditionally from the bottom point of the water volume of the steam boiler. Under such conditions, the specialized industrial ball valves from HABONIM with a 4-piston Compact pneumatic actuator with a return spring (NC) cope better. To be able to adjust the valve opening/closing speed, a pneumatic throttle is installed on the air supply line. This solution prevents abrupt opening and the occurrence of water hammer in the pipelines below the intermittent blowdown valve.

Special layer surface treatment and various seals make this type of reinforcement resistant to abrasion, high temperatures and pressure, and provides an increased number of cycles in operation.
There are a large number of options, such as execution according to different DIN, ANSI standards, various connection designs, the ability to install a manual override, pneumatic actuator, electric actuator, available explosion-proof design and other options that are available for almost every model.
The system can be configured automatically by a timer and / or additionally provide the ability to control with a discrete signal.
Similar systems have already been installed by the ARTESIA company on the Belgian steam boiler VYNCKE, working on husks. Boiler with a steam output of 10 t/h and an operating steam pressure of 10 bar (max. 13 bar). The boiler structurally has 2 lower drums, therefore it has, respectively, two periodic blowdown systems.
