Fittings for abrasive and corrosive environments

Fittings for abrasive and corrosive environments

Valves for abrasive and corrosive environments are special pipeline valves of a special design and execution, specially designed for operation in special conditions. For example: pinch valves, diaphragm valves, butterfly valves, check valves, thermoplastic fittings, etc.

Design features allow the use of this pipe fitting for loose, aggressive and abrasive media and use it in various industries, inaccessible to conventional pipeline fittings: Chemical, Energy, Water treatment, Mining, Pulp and paper, Nuclear, Pharmaceutical, Food, Sugar production.

The pipe fittings familiar to us are most often used as part of various engineering communications. However, in some areas of industry, it has not found its application due to unsuitable technical characteristics. In this case, special fittings are used. It has a special design, made of metal or plastic.

What is special purpose fittings

Such parts are used in special conditions, as a rule, in the chemical, mining, energy, nuclear, food, pharmaceutical and pulp and paper industries, as well as in the preparation of water and in the production of sugar.
It can be used to regulate the flow of bulk, abrasive and aggressive substances. Artesia offers a range of products that includes pinch valves, diaphragm and check valves, butterfly valves, thermoplastic valves.

Fittings for abrasive and corrosive environments - types and characteristics

Let's start the review with pinch valves. These devices operate on the principle of standard steel cranes - the shutter mechanism, depending on the nature of the working environment, changes the parameters of the through hole or completely closes it. The pinch valve is distinguished by the presence of an elastic sleeve inside the body. Through it, the transported substances pass further along the pipe.

The flow rate is controlled by decreasing or increasing the diameter of this sleeve. Thanks to this solution, tightness is achieved, and the valve mechanism does not come into contact with the working medium. Special pipe fittings with hose are recommended for use with pastes, slurries, powders, acids, liquids, solids and gases.

Advantages:

  • Leakage through the stem is excluded due to the absence of a stuffing box assembly.
  • There is no possibility of pressure loss.
  • Long service life.
  • A wide range of compositions available for work.
  • Fast and easy service.
  • Strong fixation of the sleeve, which allows the use in systems under vacuum.

Diaphragm valves also do not contain a gland assembly, therefore they are characterized by increased tightness. The function of the shutter in them is performed by a diaphragm made of elastomer. It is resistant to abrasive and corrosive compounds.

Special purpose diaphragm fittings are recommended for use in the pharmaceutical and biotech industries. This is due to the high hygiene of the valve. The design of the self-draining stainless steel body and PTFE-coated diaphragm eliminates the possibility of bacteria entering the working environment.

Thermoplastic taps are lightweight, reliable and easy to maintain. They are suitable for working with aggressive compounds that can quickly corrode the metal bodies of standard fittings. Most often they are used in the pipelines of oil and chemical enterprises, in particular, in the manufacture of steel and chlor-alkali substances.
